Why I Don't Write About S-E-X *gasp*

I've had people ask me why I don't have sex scenes in my books. I've also had people suggest I do so in the future. I don't have them for two reasons: I feel they take away from the actual STORY, and really, I don't want my grandma or my mother or any other relative or friend reading that and visualizing ME writing it and/or wondering if I'm writing from my own experiences.

So there you have it. If you're looking for hot and steamy sex scenes, DON'T read my books. If you're looking for entertainment and a story that makes you feel emotions, READ MY BOOKS. That is all.

  1. Good point, Lindy! I have a few somewhat steamy scenes in mine but not the whole shabang! I didn't want to make my characters too easy and I also felt worried that it would take away from the emotional conflicts if they went too far.

    1. I completely agree! I hint at stuff, but don't go into great detail.

  2. The old adage "There is a time and a place.." comes to mind. If you aren't feeling it while writing then why write it in to please a group of readers or reach another demographic. We know where to find the books with the steamy romance in it. It is nice to just read a book for the story!

One question, for now, and maybe you have addressed it and I don't remember. Do you model your characters after people in your life? Not necessarily their experiences but mannerisms maybe?

I need to pick up a book this weekend (or rather the kindle) and get reading again.

  3. I can say that Taryn from Charmed and Bianca from Dating Husbands have a lot of MY personality in them.

Safe and Sound was based on experiences from my own childhood and Lola's thoughts were some I had as a child and teenager.

I'm sure I do take mannerisms from the people around me and add them to my characters, subconsciously more than consciously.
