Synopsis: **Protecting Caroline is a stand-alone love story. It is Book 1 in the SEAL of Protection Series**

Matthew “Wolf” Steel hated flying commercial. Luckily his job as a Navy SEAL meant he didn’t have to do it very often. He’d been unlucky enough to be assigned a middle seat on the cramped jet, but fortunately for him, the woman next to him was willing to switch seats with him. Hoping for a relaxing flight, Wolf was pleasantly surprised at the good conversation and sense of humor the woman had as they flew 36,000 feet over the countryside.

When Caroline boarded the plane to Virginia to move across the country for her new job she never expected to be seated next to the hottest guy she’d ever seen. She also never expected he’d be so easy to talk to. She knew he’d never be interested in talking to her if he hadn’t been trapped in the seat next to her, but it was a nice way to spend a long plane ride.

Neither Wolf nor Caroline were prepared for a terrorist hijacking of their plane, but if Caroline thought that would be the last time she’d see, or need, Wolf, she’d be sorely mistaken.

Excerpt
Wolf didn’t say anything, just did what he’d desired to do the first time he saw her in the room. He reached over and gathered her into his arms. She was stiff at first, then she melted into him. She smelled of some sort of flowers. Maybe it was her shampoo, maybe it was a lotion she used, but it went straight to his head. He tightened his arms around her and Caroline lost it. She cried. She cried for being scared on the plane, she cried for being hurt, she cried remembering how alone and scared she felt in her apartment when only a thin piece of plastic kept a killer from knowing she was in the bathroom, she cried in relief that Matthew was back from his mission. Matthew rocked her and held her tight. He wasn’t used to a woman’s tears, but there was no way he was letting her go.
Finally her tears dried up and she only sniffed here and there. Wolf drew back a bit and looked at her face. She wasn’t a “cute crier”—her face was red and blotchy. She refused to raise her eyes. Wolf rubbed her cheeks with his thumbs and then lifted her chin up so Caroline had to look at him. He didn’t say anything just leaned down and touched her lips with his. It wasn’t a passionate kiss, but it felt right. It was a comforting kiss. It was exactly what she needed from him at that moment.
He pulled back and looked into her eyes. “You’re safe now. I’ll do everything in my power to make sure you stay that way.”
Caroline believed him. He was an honest to God hero. And for the moment, he was her hero. She tipped her chin up, reaching again for his lips with hers.
The second she moved, he was there. Wolf had tried to hold back with her. She was feeling vulnerable and he didn’t want to take advantage of her. But with the first touch of her lips against him, he was lost.

About the Author
Susan Stoker has a heart as big as the state of Texas where she lives but this all American girl has also spent the last fourteen years living in Missouri, California, Colorado, and Indiana. She is quite the romantic and even met the love of her life on “Hotmail classified” before online dating and sites like match.com even existed!

Susan has been reading romance novels since middle school and once crossed out the names of the main characters in a book and changed them to her own and to the name of her crush. She’s been writing scenes for years, developing her unique writing style.

Susan loves writing but her true passion is adopting dogs from rescue groups and shelters. Susan and her husband have had a total of nine “rescued” dogs since 2000 including a variety of basset hounds and bloodhounds. She has recently branched out and adopted a basset/terrier mix who acts more like a terrier than a basset (i.e. digging, eating a couch and being hyper).

  • For a book that deals with terrorist hijackings, was it emotional for you to write it - especially with it being published so close to 9/11?
I fly a lot for both my job and for pleasure, and every time I board I plane I think, “what if.” My husband is former military and always sees “that” side of things in the world around him. I remember on Sept 112001 my husband took one look at the new footage and said, “That’s terrorism.” I just shook my head at him for being a pessimist, but he was proven right when that second plane hit.
One thing I thought of as I wrote the airplane scenes in this book was Sept 11th and what the people on the planes might have been going through. The passengers on that plane that crashed in Pennsylvania were heroes and they certainly were worthy of the SEALs in my book. Of course in Protecting Caroline, everyone was saved and it turned out all right, but unfortunately, as our country learned, that isn’t always the case.

Since airport and airplane security has been tightened in our country I tried to think of a way that a terrorist organization might be able to take over a plane full of people. I think because of 9/11 more people would be willing to go out on a limb and “fight back,” so it was important to take that away from the majority of the passengers in the book.

Writing the scene itself wasn’t emotional, but thinking about what others who are trapped in a plane and know it’s going to crash, IS emotional. I just can’t imagine the feeling of helplessness and terror those people must think. I’ve seen some documentaries, not only about 9/11, but about other plane crashes and it’s just horrifying.
I know every time I step onto a plane I say a little prayer that my flight will be one of the thousands of routine flights that happen around this country and world every day. I imagine Caroline might have thought the same thing.

Age Recommendation: 18+
Synopsis:
A dead world famous supermodel.
A contract killer in love with her best friend.
An organised crime family looking for revenge.
A boyfriend with a mysterious legacy.
French sleuth Sémya Slotin is officially back on the case. The break is over.

“I’m Semya Slotin, yes this Slotin. I love wine, vodka, absinthe, my younger brother Aaron and my best friend Polliannah, in no particular order. When Josh Heinz and I are not too busy fighting or tearing each other clothes off, I solve mysteries. And I’m really good. I’m really good at a lot of things and people usually don’t see me coming… but here I am and I’m not going anywhere.”

It all started with a simple case…

Book One: Bird of Prey
Who killed the infamous supermodel Johanna Cartier?
After spending three years away from sleuthing, Sémya Slotin is thrown back in the business when she found her body. With the help of her best friend Polliannah Koch, DCI Ally Gibbons and the mysterious but extremely sexy Josh Heinz, she vows to see this through.

Book Two: The Plot Thickens
What happened while Semya Slotin and Josh Heinz were busy solving Johanna Cartier’s murder in Bird of Prey?
When Polliannah met John Allen, she thought that she had finally found her Prince Charming. When John set his sights on Polliannah, he knew that he had a job to do and that the beautiful Miss Guryev should only be a means to an end. Then they fell in love. Now he and his Russian Princess had to leave London for their safety. But it may already be too late…

“I’m Polliannah Koch Guryev, yes I’m part of the infamous Guryev family but you can call me Polli or Mrs Allen. I love my parents, some of my brothers, high-end shopping, Russian vodka and last but not least my worst half and partner in crime Sémya Slotin. When I’m not managing our wine store in Chelsea or committing some kind felony with Sémya in the name of the God of Sleuth, I dream of Prince Charming. I’ve kissed enough frogs to give up on love but somehow it doesn’t seem to want to give up on me. How many times do I need to get hurt before it does? But still, here I go again…maybe this time it would be the last.”

Book Three: Polliannah Got Married!
The truth this time, and nothing but the truth…
Polliannah is in trouble and her boyfriend is dead. Nothing’s prepared Sémya, Detective Extraordinaire, for what she finds in Toronto. Polliannah is a widow and her late husband John Allen was a hit man for the powerful Dovos family. What did they want from her? Why is this happening to them? Josh Heinz knows more than he lets on, but he’s not telling her anything. Old conspiracies and secrets resurface putting them all in peril. Sémya’s worst fears about her relationship with Josh and his past are confirmed causing a rift between that may never heal. Sémya and Polliannah’s world is falling apart. Will they be able to come out of this stronger?

Book Four: Vincent Mallory Edgerton
Every love story has a beginning.
From the moment their gazes locked, Sémya and Vincent sealed their fate.
Sémya Slotin had been coasting through life solving one mystery after another. While investigating a friend’s disappearance in Hawaii, she met Josh Heinz. Her mind kept telling her to stay away from the handsome stranger but he awakened something in her and she was unable to resist him. Vincent Mallory Edgerton had always been an efficient FREGG operative. He loved his job, even when he had to leave everything behind for his own safety. On his last assignment, he was forced to work covertly with the sexy bold sleuth. Sémya’s beauty and intellect enthralled him, but his passion and growing love for her also changed him. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to finally win her trust and keep her safe, causing him to unleash events that would shape the rest of their lives.

EXCERPT
Sémya Louise Slotin was staring at Josh Heinz talking on his mobile and sighed for the third time. Once again, he was keeping her in the dark and she hadn’t felt this helpless in years. No, it wasn’t even that. She was desperate and she hadn’t felt like this in a long time. That helpless desperation that took her over each time she knew she couldn’t control a situation.
The first time she felt this way was after her birth mother, Corinne Durante, told her that she was dying. Her mom had always been honest with her, but at eight when you learnt that your only parent was going to die of AIDS, a then relatively unknown illness, wouldn’t you become desperate too? Then there was the time when her adoptive mother, Annika Slotin, was accused of the murder of her creep of a husband, Martin Demeure. She knew that her mother was innocent but she was just fifteen and no one listened to a fifteen-year ago teenager; even if her IQ was three times higher than average. For both of these events she had an anchor, her safe harbour, her Russian princess, her Polliannah.
So it was smooth sailing for a while until one night her anchor called her. She was scared and for the first time, Polliannah was the one who needed her help and support. Sémya dropped everything and took the first flight to Moscow. She had never felt as desperate and helpless as she was that day. She was only twenty-two, but she needed to be strong for them both. They packed up everything and left Europe for new horizons, new adventures, new encounters and new mysteries to solve. That was what Sémya had been known for, solving mysteries. And when she wasn’t sleuthing, they kept each other safe from bad men, wrong men, and stupid men.
It was just the two of them until Josh Heinz came into their lives three and a half years ago. After the Hawaii fiasco, which she scarcely remembered, Sémya and Polliannah went back to Europe; with Josh. They moved to London; where Josh was. They settled in Camden Town; across the street from Josh. There, Sémya had spent nearly every night… with Josh. Josh, Josh, Josh… the handsome and sexy Josh Heinz. The secretive and mysterious Josh Heinz. The guitarist with a suave voice Josh Heinz. Josh, Josh, Josh… Josh, who stated that he loved her. Josh, who said that he wanted to protect her. She sighed for the fourth time and headed to the closest kiosk.
This time she failed her. After eight years of taking care of each other, of dodging every bullet in the name of love, friendship and family, she failed Polliannah. They received the scariest call from her, she was crying. Her new boyfriend John had been killed and she thought that she was next. So Sémya felt helpless and desperate again. She lost control of the situation, control of their lives. She was angry. Anger usually followed. She and Polli lived a quiet life in London. Who would want to harm them? One thing for sure, Josh knew and as usual, he wasn’t talking. But they would see about that.

Skateboard Xombies by Ace Antonio Hall

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Ace Antonio Hall is an actor, former music producer, and ‘retired’ educator with accolades as a Director of Education for the Sylvan Learning Center and nearly fifteen years experience as an award-winning NYC English teacher. He has a BFA degree with a concentration in screenwriting and has published poetry, short stories and fiction in magazines, anthologies, newspapers and novels.
Inspired by his father, Chris Acemandese Hall, who penned the lyrics to the Miles Davis jazz classic, “So What”, sung by Eddie Jefferson, and his sister, Carol Lynn Brown, who guest starred in the 1970’s film, “Velvet Smooth”, Ace spawned his creativity into developing the beloved but flawed teen character, Sylva Slasher.
Ace was the Vice President of the Greater Los Angeles Writers Society (2009-2011), and continues to head the Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror (ScHoFan) Critique Group as Co-Director of critique groups within the society. He is also a member of LASFS and the International Thriller Writers.
On April 14, 2013, Montag Press published his YA zombie novel Confessions of Sylva Slasher. His next release, Skateboard Xombies, is coming out later this year, and he has already begun working on Skateboard Xamurai for the third installment in his Sylva Slasher series.

DON’T THINK, FEEL
I stared into Jun Lee’s delightful violet eyes. His spirit wavered around me in a twisted battle of angst and charm. He was bald, except for a lone purplish-blue ponytail that nearly touched the Travertine-tiled floor. His smile broadened as helifted the thoughts from my head the way a cat burglar lifts a priceless diamond from the confines of a highly secured jewel display. He was a mind-dweller, a seer of thoughts, just like his father.
I gazed toward his flawless face, yet trembled like a statue that had been bumped by a reckless quake. I was frozen, declared inanimate from the moment his warm hand brushed against my neck, and his strong fingers grasped the back of my head, pulling my lips within a whispered breath of his own.
The mind-dweller’s audience salivated with anticipation. I, who had raised hundreds of the dead from the grave, and stared death in the face more times than I can count, sat in a blend of awe and terror of this beautiful vampire.
I fought to keep my mind, struggled to hide my thoughts. Yet, every fiber of my being burned with an intensity that mirrored the sweltering heat of the reddened night air outside of his parlor. I fought his intrusion the way an eagle’s feather argued with a strong breeze. It was futile. My memories opened to him like prey into a dragon’s mouth.

Excerpts:
The Memory Remains Riley Ross “Hush baby girl, I am gonna keep you safe from her.” My grandma said softly as she touched my face. “She will never harm you. Delia and I will take care of you. My sweet baby girl, you are bonded to us.”
An Almost Ghost Story Dovey Mayali Cralk "Ha!" she laughed, "I'm not gonna be bossed about by some ghost! Sod off; I'm trying to unpack here." With that, she bent down and retrieved the cloth, then turned her back on him to spread it out on the table, picking up her tune again.
The Summer of Alyssa Kaydence Rayne "I suppose I should just come out and say it, because I can't stop thinking it. I would like to clear the air between us. Because, well, I haven't really seen you in years. And don't try to say some crap like, 'I see you every day', because it really isn't the same..." "I know," he cut her off, "and I have an explanation for it." She froze. This wasn't going as planned at all. She expected him to protest or something. She had a whole speech planned!
Deviate book 2 Sally Slayer "Hey, Cleo! What's got your panties in a twist?" Jack grinned playfully. I yelped and jumped, and cursed the blush that crept up my neck at his use of the word "panties". "Not a thing, all right? Not a damn thing." I grumbled uncomfortably.

Unlit Star is now LIVE

Happy news! Unlit Star has been released a little over a week early. It is also only 99 pennies for a limited time, so get it now. It is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and Createspace.

BLURB:

Rivers Young was the popular guy untouchable by reality. He was like a star—bright, consuming, otherworldly. The thing about stars, though, is that they eventually fall, and Rivers Young was no different.

He fell far and he fell hard.

Delilah Bana was the outcast enshrouded in all of life's ironies. Alone, in the d...ark, like dusk as it falls on the world. When Rivers fell from the sky, she was the night that caught him. In the darkness, they found one another. Together they melded into something beautiful that shone like the sun.

Only, the greater the star is, the shorter its lifespan.

EXCERPT:

“Thanks for the sandwich.”

He nods, flexing the fingers of his left hand.

I exhale, ignoring the overactive beating of my heart. “What are you doing?”

“Staring at my super hot legs.”

Rolling my eyes, I say, “Don't you already have enough admirers without being one yourself?”

“Funny.”

“What are you thinking?” That's the real question I want answered. What does Rivers think about the kiss we exchanged last night? I am not sure I want to know, but I decided I couldn't hide out in the upstairs of his house indefinitely, so here I am.

“It shouldn't have happened.” His eyes are downcast as he fiddles with the hem of his yellow shirt.

A crack forms somewhere inside me. I pretend it isn't there, forcing a lightness to my tone I do not feel. “What shouldn't have?”

He glances up, a scowl on his face. “You know what I'm talking about. The kiss.”

I sit down in the grass beside him, partially turned away from him. “Are you sorry I kissed you?”

“Aren't you?”

“I instigated it, didn't I?”

“Yeah. About that. I don't get it. Why did you?” Our eyes meet, his dark and searching. I don't have time to answer before he says, “When you look at me, you have to be repulsed.”

“By what?” I ask.

He gestures to the scars that line his face and then to his legs.

“I don't even see them,” I say with all honesty.

His eyebrows lower and his eyes follow. I caught the blatant yearning in his gaze just before he hid it. He wants to believe me, but can't allow himself to.

My fingers curl into the palms of my hands to keep from reaching out to him. I blow out a noisy breath and look at a caterpillar ever so slowly creeping along the grass. I put my finger out and it carefully feels my skin before crawling over it, tickling my flesh as it goes.

I smile. “He's so slow, but you know what? He never gives up. He knows, one day, he'll be free,” I say in a low voice. “He's ugly to most, but to those that matter, he's beautiful. They know his potential. They know where he started and where he'll end, and how long it will take for him to get there. It's something to be admired, not tossed aside.”

“You're saying one day I'll be a butterfly,” he says skeptically.

I look up. “I'm saying you've always been one.”

Rivers stares at me for a long time, his eyes tracing the angles and curves of my face. “You say a lot of strange stuff, you know that?”

Nodding, I hide a smile. “I guess so.”

His tone is thoughtful when he tells me, “I like it. I like being around you.”

My pulse picks up. “Why?”

With a shrug, he states, “I don't feel so sorry for myself when you're around. I don't feel so ugly or worthless. I feel normal.”

“You are neither of those things.”

“Yeah.” His voice says he doesn't believe me.

I run a finger along the soft grass as I say, "I kind of like being around you too."

"Why?" he shoots back.

I tilt my head, my hair falling to the side as I ponder this. "Well, aside from the fact that you make me look good—oddly enough, I think I like your personality."

"Hmm. You think? I'm usually wanted for my body and not my mind."

"Given the circumstances, we all have to make exceptions."

His mouth twitches. "What circumstances?"

"Your hideous disfigurement," I tell him airily.

"Thanks," he says dryly, a faint smile on his mouth.

“Sure. I'm all about looking on the bright side. Want to go for a walk? We'll go slow,” I add when he hesitates.

His face darkens. “I hate that—that you even have to say that. I don't want you to have to go slow for me.”

I get to my feet. “So I won't.” I walk to the fence gate, opening it and going through. A tendril of elation webs through me and spreads when he follows.
